The History of "THE HAPPY WANDERERS CHAPTER"
At the ACA National Rally in Rayne, LA several
couples met and discovered they shared a common interest of traveling full time.
The idea of forming a chapter for those who traveled full time became the topic
of conversation and the decision was made to go forth with this idea.
A petition with the required number of signatures along with the request for
chapter approval was presented to Louise Bennett, President of the American
Coach Association on October 28, 1998 at the Fall ACA National Rally in Rayne,
LA.
The chapter would be the Happy Wanderers and the purpose of the chapter was to
provide an added measure of camaraderie for those persons that did not belong to
a regional type chapter as a result of their full time traveling life style. The
Happy Wanderers Chapter would not compete with other ACA Chapters for members,
but provide those members who traveled extensively or full time with a chapter.
Rendezvous were to be scheduled as a pre-rally prior to the spring and fall ACA
National Rallies.
The interim officers were: Bob Harker, President, Paul Borne, Vice President,
Margaret Harker, Secretary and Marlene Borne, Treasurer. On December 24, 1998,
the Happy Wanderers Chapter received notification of approval by the ACA Board
of Directors and became the 11th chapter of ACA.
The first chapter pre-rally was held in Rochester, WA on June 18 – 20, 1999 with
12 members in attendance and on June 21st we caravanned to the fairground in
Puyallup, WA for the spring ACA National Rally.
As we were the newest chapter with the smallest membership, the
chapter supported the National Rallies as the parking committee as
well as the information booth. In 2003, the Happy Wanderers co-hosted
the fall ACA National Rally in Amana, IA.
.....And, the rest is history.
